Thursday night, a high school football star from our area scored his first college touchdown during UTC's home opener.
UTC started their season Thursday night with a win at Finley Stadium. Their first touchdown of that game came from a kid from Walker Valley who was a leader during his high school's most successful season in school history.
In 2016, Walker Valley High School's number 23 made the crowd make some noise.
But when you ask head coach Glen Ryan about Bryce Nunnelly - "He's just not a vocal kid. He's one of those quiet kids and lets his talent speak for him."
His talent spoke loud and clear for 89 yards at Finley stadium Thursday night.
Nunnelly is now number 19, and spoke with us Friday.
"Consider this being my first college TD, I don't know how to describe it... the touchdowns in high school were great, but this one was great."
Nunnelly starts his season on a booming note, but it's not a surprise to anyone since he made the friends and family scream as a Walker Valley Mustang.
"He's got very good speed. He can run, he can jump, he's got great hands," says Coach Ryan.
Ryan says Nunnelly also has a few accolades to be proud of.
He led his senior team to the most victories in Walker Valley High history, and to their first ever playoff win.
"I'm thankful for getting there," says Nunnelly. "I'm thankful for the people I knew there. The coaches I played for, if they feel proud for coaching me, I feel honored for that."
The sophomore wide receiver knows he still has a lot to learn.
So make sure to listen closely over the next three seasons - you might hear something about Bryce Nunnelly.
We asked him if he has any plans to switch schools for more football opportunities. He says he plans to stay at UTC until the school doesn't want him anymore.
Nunnelly says he chose UTC because it was the best offer he received, and he felt like it was a perfect fit.
