UT basketball coach Rick Barnes tests positive for COVID-19, team activities paused

University of Tennessee head basketball coach Rick Barnes has tested positive for COVID-19, UT announced Monday.

Barnes has entered isolation protocol. The Tennessee men's basketball team has paused all team activities following multiple COVID-19 test results among its coaches, players, team managers and support staff.

The positive cases were detected during routine COVID-19 surveillance testing that’s conducted three times a week in accordance with NCAA and SEC guidelines.

The team is getting retested Monday.

The virus cases come as UT prepared for a season-opening game scheduled for Wednesday against Charlotte.
