WASHINGTON (SBG) - Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The contract is reportedly worth $7.5 million.

Newton, who was released from the Carolina Panthers in March, will look to replace former Patriots quarterback and six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who signed a two-year, $50 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after spending 20 years in New England.

“I’m as excited as I don’t what right now!!" Newton posted his Instagram story Sunday night. “All praise to God!! Dropping content tomorrow!! I hope you’re ready!! Let’sgoPats.”

The 31-year-old spent the last nine years playing for the Panthers after the organization selected him with the first overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

Newton underwent surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury on his left foot last December and missed the final 14 games of the Panther's 2019 season.
