Murphy wins 1A state baseball title with 5-run 7th inning, 8-5 over West Columbus

WLOS - Murphy expected to play on Saturday; the Bulldogs just didn't know they'd be playing two games. Weather postponed Friday nights game one of the championship series against West Columbus until Saturday. In the bottom of the second Lucas Barolet drive in two with an RBI double to pull the Bulldogs within one, 3-2. Royce Peterson would tie the game at five the next inning with a two-run homer. Murphy would take the lead, 7-5 in the bottom of the 4th when the game went into a two hour weather delay. Once the storm moved out, the Bulldogs secured the game one win without further scoring from either side.

In game two, West Columbus would again jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Nathan Barolet would put the Bulldogs ahead 3-2 in the third with an infield single. The Vikings would regain the lead and carry a 4-3 advantage into the 7th inning when the Murphy offense came alive. Joey Curry tied the game with an RBI single and then Peterson followed suit with a run-scoring single of his own. Caleb Irwin tripled in two more runs, and then Travis Seabolt added another RBI for safe measure. The Vikings were unable to muster more than a run in the home half of the inning and the Bulldogs took an 8-5 win for the state title.
