LaFayette High School JROTC rifle team shoots sharp at state championship

The LaFayette High School (LHS) Junior ROTC team competed over the weekend at the Georgia High School Association (GSHA) State Rifle Match on Saturday, April 28th at the Pool International Shooting Complex at Fort Benning, Georgia.

The school says the postseason started with 60 teams, and the top 17 were invited to the state championship.

LHS shot a season and school record of 1148.

Alyssa Kiser shot a personal best of 295 missing the state record by just 1 point. At the of the relay, she was the third-ranked shooter in the state.

Emma Sargent shot a 292, followed by Logan Massingill with his personal best score of 287.

Steve Thompson and Alaina Shults finished with a 274.

At the end of the day the LHS ROTC Team finished 5th in the state overall and the top ranked Army ROTC team in the state.

Being a top 8 shooter, Kiser entered the finals. When the match was over, LHS had two top 10 shooters in the state.

Kiser finished 6th overall and Emma Sargeant finished 9th overall.

LHS says, "This has been an amazing year with great senior leadership."
