The Friday Night Rivals broadcast game on the CW Chattanooga features region rivals Bradley Central and Ooltewah. Javin Burke is the new transfer quarterback at Bradley Central. He has a cannon of an arm, is fast and is a straight-A student. according to head coach Damon Floyd. "Potential wise, he's as good as any we've ever had. He can do some things that not only some of our quarterbacks couldn't do in the past, he can do some things that not a lot of people in the world can do," Floyd said.
Add to that standout wide receiver Tray Curry, a strong offensive line and an explosive, dynamic offense and the Bears could be hard to handle. "We like the potential of our team, but it's just about continuing to get better from week to week."
Ooltewah, on the other hand, is searching for improvement. Head coach Scott Chandler put it this way, "We're struggling right now as a team, trying to find our identity. I've been pleased with our secondary."
Coach Chandler said turnovers have been a major problem. But, running back Jaequan Greenhill has been a bright spot over the last two weeks. The Owls have a veteran offensive line, but coach Chandler said they need to act like it. "So far that hasn't been the case. We've shown signs that we can do it, but we just haven't been consistent enough doing it."
The Owls coach is hoping for a breakthrough. "We're like a woodpecker in a petrified forest right now, just pecking on every tree. We're just trying to find one we can get our beak into, you know. Just trying to see what we can do the best right now."
But Bradley Central coach Floyd knows anything can happen in this series. "When we play Ooltewah now, it's kind of become a little bit of a rivalry you know. We're 12 miles away from them. We've been in the same region or district over the years. Any time you play them it has huge playoff implications," Floyd said.
The game airs on the CW Chattanooga at 7:30 Friday night.
Pregame is at 7:00 PM.
