Several cheerleaders from the NewsChannel 9 viewing area are headed across the pond to take part in the world famous London New Year's Day Parade.
Melanie Kral and Lucy Mejia of Baylor High School will join more than 800 high school cheerleaders from across the country to represent Varsity Spirit.
According to Baylor, the two competed individually, along with five other teammates and all seven received the All American Cheer Award at a Varsity UCA camp this summer.
Only the top 12% of athletes who attend camp earn this chance.
“The All-American program is celebrating its 31st year in 2018, and our talented cheerleaders, dancers and drum majors really enjoy the opportunity to show their skills to a very enthusiastic international audience,” says Mike Fultz, International Event Coordinator for Varsity Spirit.
Chelsey Durham and Aubrey Steadman will be representing LaFayette High School at the parade.
We're also told Lydia Schultz will be representing Sequatchie County High School.
Cameron Taylor will be representing McMinn County High School.
Leah Hargis of Cleveland High School will also be going.
And we're also told the Walker Valley High School Marching Band in Cleveland will march in the parade.
You can learn more about the event at the Varsity Spirit website here.
NewsChannel 9 has been made aware some other students in our viewing area are also making this trip. We would like to include them in this story, so if you know of one, please email our newsroom.
