WASHINGTON (SBG) — It is a scent some are calling "out of this world."

A new fragrance called "Eau De Space" looks to bring the scent of space back to all of us here on earth.

Product manager Matt Richmond described the sent as "gunpowder, seared steak, raspberries and rum."

Steve Pearce, chemist and founder of Omega Ingredients, was contracted by NASA back in 2008 to recreate the smell, according to CNN. The product took roughly four years to develop.

The purpose of the contract was to help astronauts before they ventured into space, giving them an early idea of what it might smell like and eliminate the possibility for surprise, the fragrance states on their Kickstarter website.

Astronauts have described the smell of space similar to that after a gun has recently been fired.

"It's kind of like a smell from a gun, right after you fire the shot, said Peggy Whitson astronaut and former resident of the International Space Station in an interview with CNN in 2002. "I think it kind of has almost a bitter kind of smell in addition to being smoky and burned."

The company hopes to release a second fragrance called "Smell of the Moon" following the interests in "Eau De Space."
