Young artists win Hamilton Place art awards Thursday

Hamilton County Department of Education (HCDE) say young artists from Hamilton County Schools were honored Thursday at the eighth annual Hamilton Place Mall art competition awards held on the upper level of the mall.

The student artwork is displayed near Sears on the upper level and will be there for the public to enjoy until September.

HCDE says the winners of the competition, their families, and teachers gathered to receive their awards.

The competition divided students into three categories with winners in elementary, middle and high divisions.

HCDE says each first-place winner received a $50 gift card from Barnes and Noble; second-place winners a $35 Barnes and Noble gift card and third-place winners a $20 Barnes and Noble gift card.

The competition included Honorable mention awards in each category for this year’s competition.

HCDE says the theme for this year was “At the Movies.”

Winners included:

Elementary School

  • 1st Place: Tyler Gordon, Wolftever Elementary
  • 2nd Place: Cambria Paris, Chattanooga School for the Liberal Arts
  • 3rd Place: Alex Guo, Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences
  • Honorable Mention: Isabella Greene, Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences

Middle School

  • 1st Place: Shayanne Gaines, Red Bank Middle
  • 2nd Place: Camy Hodge, Red Bank Middle
  • 3rd Place: Shelby Massengale, Red Bank Middle
  • Honorable Mention: Melody Drymon and Gracie Sanders, Red Bank Middle

High School

  • 1st Place: Katherine Poole, Sale Creek High
  • 2nd Place: Alex McElhone, Sale Creek High
  • 3rd Place: Makayla Pritchett, Soddy-Daisy High
  • Honorable Mention: Natalie Holt, Soddy-Daisy High; and Chandler Turner, Sale Creek High
