Lightning starts house fire on Big Ridge

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a house fire on Hamill Road just before 7 p.m. Tuesday.

When crews arrived, they found the garage of the home engulfed with the fire spreading through the roof over the garage.

Crews used a defensive attack to put out the fire.

A husband and wife live inside the home with a dog and two cats.

The wife was home at the time of the fire and was able to escape with the dog. The cats have not been located at this time.

The woman told fire crews that she felt lightning strike the home shortly before the fire.

There were no injuries reported, but the damage to the home was substantial.
