Dunlap Police say two women are behind bars, charged with stealing a car from the parking lot of a local business.

According to a statement, surveillance video showed a white 2015 Honda Civic being stolen from the Dunlap business on November 14.

Police say around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, they got a call that there was a suspicious vehicle in the drive-thru of a fast food restaurant. When officers arrived, they say they found Jordan Carlee Schmitt driving the vehicle.

Dunlap PD says it was the same Honda Civic seen in the surveillance video - but they found the tag attached had been stolen from Hamilton County.

Later that day, around 10 a.m., the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Department stopped another driver, Tiffany June Newman, on unrelated issues on Highway 127 near Highway 111.

According to police, detectives with both departments interviewed the two women, and they each admitted to stealing the white Honda.

Both Schmitt and Newman were arrested and charged with theft over $1,000.
