The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will not go on as a live television event this year, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Monday.

Instead, the parade will be 'reimagined' as a virtual event, similar to the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks show, which included a series of taped fireworks shows in various areas of the city.

No other details were provided. Mayor de Blasio only said, "It will not be the same parade we're used to. It will be a different kind of event. They're reinventing the event for this moment in history."
