People in Chattanooga paid tribute to a man who became an icon to many in the area, Sandy “The Flower Man” Bell. He was known for handing out flowers and smiles to people across downtown.

Sandy passed away on Sunday, January 27.

People are keeping his memory alive with a Floral pop up downtown on Wednesday.

Local florist organized the tribute, and more than thousand people expressed interest in the event.

People came by bringing flowers of their own to lay down in remembrance of him. Some people wrote warm wishes in a notebook to express their condolences.

Eddie Bridges attended the tribute with a heavy heart, after losing “a dear friend” of 25 years.

He say, “He had a lot going on beyond just spreading flowers around. He loved to read, he loved movies and he was great at pool.”

Eddie hopes that this Floral Pop Up will remind people to emote positivity, adding, “It’s essential we maintain his memory. We need to strive to be like him.”

A city-wide memorial will be held for Sandy Bell this weekend.

The service will be held at John Henry Visual and Performing Arts Center at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.

After the service, a candle vigil will be held at the Sculpture Fields at Montague Park.
