The American Idol journey for Spring City's Drake McCain has come to an end.

On Sunday night's program, based in Hawaii, McCain was among the contestants cut from the group. A remaining group of 20 contestants will go on to Hollywood.

Judges told McCain that while he interacted with the crowd well, he had trouble hitting some of the notes on the song he was performing, Maroon 5's "Girls Like You."

Watch the segment below:

The judges told McCain "We're really proud of you and proud to see you grow." "Keep it up," another judge added.

McCain said in reaction, "I'm upset. I know I could have done better, but, you know, it happens."

Both judges and fans on Twitter wished McCain well as the news of his elimination spread, and he responded to many of them.

Even though we won't see him again on Idol, his career appears to be far from over. He dropped a single on iTunes and YouTube last week:

We are certain we haven't seen the last of Drake McCain, and we wish him and his family well in his future entertainment endeavours.
